Who can enter the Mrs. SA competition ?
Any married woman between the ages of 18 and 54, who is a South African citizen, may enter.
How long has the Mrs. SA competition being going ?
The Mrs. South Africa competition can be traced as far back as 1970. It has been held intermittently by various organizers until 1997 when the "modern Mrs. SA competition" started.
Is Mrs. SA a competition for old or for young woman ?
Mrs. SA is, and has always been, a competition for all married women. It is a philosophy of the organizers that the best contestant will win whatever her age, and for that matter any other differentiator. As far back as 1971 women have entered who are grandmothers and in the same year Mrs. Martie van Vuuren, a 19 year old hairdresser from Springs entered the competition. Many of the recent winners have teenage children (yes they are more mature).
Is Mrs. SA based along cultural, race or language lines ?
No. In this case let the record speak for itself. Previous winners and runners up have been diverse in race, language culture and just about anything else.
What is expected of me as a contestant ?
Contestants are expected to actively take part in all the aspects and activities of the competition. These activities differ on a yearly basis but usually include public appearances, fund raising, sponsorship initiation, charity work, etc.
Is Mrs. SA a charity organization ?
No, Mrs. South Africa is a business and is run as such. Charity does however form a part of the contestant's tasks and the full benefit thereof is made available to the contestant's community directly.
How is the charity section of Mrs. SA organized ?
A contestant's charity work is done in conjunction with her local Rotary, Round Table or Lyons Club. The contestant will approach the local chapter of the mentioned organization with Mrs. SA's introduction documentation. The contestant will assist with the Club with charity work and fundraising where after the Club will certify the contestant's participation.
